During the most recent Folsom City Council Meeting on March 26, council chambers at City Hall were filled with residents and attendees were overflowing into the hallway, most of which came to share their thoughts and concerns surrounding the city’s review of a possible homeless resource site on city property near the historic district.
During that meeting, Folsom Mayor Mike Kozlowski noted that he heard the community’s concerns loud and clear, as council members unanimously agreed to not move forward with what the mayor owns as his own “bad idea.” During the meeting, however, Kozlowski thanked the concerned residents for their attendance and now he plans to continue the conversations with a public meeting next week.
On Thursday April 11, Kozlowski, who not only holds his mayoral role, but represents the City of Folsom’s District 1, will host a “community listening session on homelessness.” The public meeting will take place at 6:30 p. in the RG Smith Room of the Folsom Community Center at 52 Natoma Street.
“The goal of the listening session is to gather community feedback and explore strategies and solutions for addressing and preventing homelessness in the Folsom community,” the city explained in the meeting announcement, “This session is designed for listening and gathering input.”
City officials noted that the public meeting is not an official City Council meeting and will not be home to an immediate action being taken. It is being described as a “solutions-oriented” session in which they encourage those with concerns, ideas and feedback in which future plans and strategies can be developed from. Input from the public is an important component of the planned meeting.
