Shohini Chakraborty joins 19 others nationwide to represent Students Against Destructive Decisions
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) announced today that Folsom resident and Folsom High School student Shohini Chakraborty has been named to the SADD National Student Leadership Council for the 2024-2025 school year.
Chosen from a nationwide pool of highly qualified applicants, Chakraborty joins nineteen other students to represent thousands of active SADD students nationwide, according to information provided to Folsom Times by Michelle Klima, Arizona State Coordinatior for SADD. Shohini has been a member of SADD since 2021 and previously served on SADD’s California Student Leadership Council. A member of Folsom High School’s class of 2025, Shohini is actively involved in making an impact in her community through her volunteer work.
“We welcome Shohini’s leadership on the SADD National Leadership Council”, said Scott Myers, SADD Executive Director. “SADD students such as Shohini are the foundation of SADD’s mission and we look forward to representation from California on the council.”
The Student Leadership Council advises the SADD National Board of Directors on policies, programs, and plans for implementing state and national traffic safety strategies. Shohini will provide strategic support to the organization on health and safety priorities and serve as a national and regional representation of the SADD network.
As the nation braces for “100 Deadliest Days,” the induction of Shohini heralds a new chapter of promoting safe and responsible behaviors among today’s youth. Student leaders will be the guiding voice on buckling up, refraining from impaired driving, and being an empowered passenger. Shohini emerges as a positive influence during the deadliest time of year for student drivers. SADD’s students are the voice of their community and their leadership within SADD signifies a united effort to empower their peers with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the dangers of the summer months with vigilance and empowerment.
In addition to her recently named role and member of the Folsom High School student body, Chakraborty is also an accomplished singer songwriter. In 2024 she was the Bank of American Student Leader. According to her Linked In profile she has been the organizer and licensee of the TEDx Folsom High School Youth in 2024. Looking into the future she aspires to be a physician and neurologist.
For over 40 years, SADD, the nation’s premier youth health & safety organization, has worked to empower teens, engage parents, mobilize communities, and change lives around the issues of traffic safety, substance abuse, and personal health and safety. Through a national network of peer-led chapters in middle schools, high schools, and colleges, SADD equips our students with the resources they need to advocate for change on their campuses and communities.
Founded as Students Against Driving Drunk in 1981 in Wayland, Massachusetts, SADD has grown to become the nation’s dominant peer-to-peer youth education and prevention organization with thousands of chapters in middle schools, high schools and colleges. In 1997, in response to requests from SADD students themselves, SADD expanded its mission and name and now sponsors chapters called Students Against Destructive Decisions. SADD continues to endorse a firm “No Use” message related to use of alcohol and other drugs.
With its expanded focus, SADD now highlights prevention of all destructive behaviors and attitudes that are harmful to young people, including underage drinking, substance abuse, impaired driving, violence, and suicide
