City event invites young builders, teens, and families to showcase creativity

FOLSOM — One of the Folsom Public Library’s most popular youth events is gearing up for another year of imagination and community fun as the 7th Annual LEGO Building Contest returns this January. The 2026 theme, “Adventure,” calls on builders of all ages to dream big, build boldly, and bring their most daring ideas to life using only their own original LEGO creations.

According to the event announcement from the City of Folsom, entries will be accepted at the Folsom Public Library beginning Tuesday, January 20, and will continue through Saturday, January 24, until 11 a.m. LEGO enthusiasts throughout the community are encouraged to design and submit their best builds—whether inspired by faraway lands, epic quests, or everyday adventures seen through a creative lens.

Judging for the contest will take place on Saturday, January 24. The public is also invited to visit the library from 2 to 4 p.m. that afternoon to view all entries on display, celebrate the winning designs in each age group, and cast votes for the Crowd Favorite awards. Winners designated as Crowd Favorite will be announced shortly after 4 p.m.

The annual contest continues to draw a wide range of participants, with categories open for Young Child (ages 4–6), Child (7–9), Child (10–12), Teen (13–18), and Family/Team entries. Within each group, four winners will be recognized: 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, and Crowd Favorite. First-place winners in each category will receive a $25 gift card, and all winning builders will take home certificates and prize ribbons.

The event has become a staple at the Folsom Public Library, transforming the building’s community room into a gallery of creativity each January. Visitors often spend time walking through rows of intricate designs, many of which feature impressive detail and storytelling elements that reflect weeks—sometimes months—of preparation by their creators. As in past years, the contest is expected to draw strong participation from families and young builders who look forward to the friendly competition and the opportunity to see their work on display.

Those interested in entering the contest or reviewing the official guidelines can access the 2026 LEGO Contest Rules & Application through the City of Folsom’s website. The rules outline the requirements for original builds, size limits, and delivery procedures for all submissions.
