EL DORADO HILLS — An early morning fire destroyed a two-story home in El Dorado Hills on Friday, prompting a large multi-agency response and resulting in an estimated $1 million in property damage, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at approximately 12:19 a.m. Dec. 26 at a two-story, approximately 3,000-square-foot single-family home in the 200 block of Asuncion Court in the Francisco Oaks neighborhood. Fire crews arriving on scene found the structure already heavily involved, with heavy fire venting through a majority of the roof and conditions indicating rapid fire spread throughout the home.
Firefighters from the El Dorado Hills Fire Department responded alongside mutual-aid resources from CAL FIRECameron Park, the Folsom Fire Department, the Rescue Fire Protection District and the El Dorado County Fire Protection District.
“At the time of arrival, firefighters were unaware whether any occupants were inside the home, and crews immediately initiated an aggressive interior attack while conducting a primary search,” the El Dorado Hills fire chief told Folsom Times. “During those search operations, large sections of the roof collapsed, creating hazardous conditions for crews operating inside the structure.”
Firefighters were ultimately able to confirm that the homeowner and family were not home at the time of the incident. Once occupant safety was verified, crews continued suppression efforts under challenging conditions due to the extent of fire involvement and structural instability.
No injuries were reported in the firefighting effort. Fire officials estimated the property loss at approximately $1 million. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
