Multiple units were battling a vegetation fire just southwest of Folsom along Grant Line Road Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 3:30 p.m. units from both the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and were dispatched to the area of Grant Line Road near the area where it intersects with White Rock Road for a reported vegetation fire. Currently, eight engines and two water tender trucks are on scene of the incident working it from the ground. At least one helicopter is also assisting in the firefighters on the ground and two air tankers were requested by incident command. The fire is reported as being southwest of Folsom and east of the City of Rancho Cordova.
Initial reports from the scene, reported the fire to be approximately five acres in size. As of 3:49 p.m. Watch Duty reported the fire to have grown to 25 acres in size with a moderate spread. As of 4:00 p.m. there was no containment being reported of the active fire and according to incident command reports thatthe fire appears to have the potential to burn 40-50 acres until firefighters can get it fully contained.
In addition to units from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, units from CalFire are in response to the incident as well.
According to incident command and Watch Duty as of 3:56 p.m. Wednesday, there are no structures currently threatened in the immediate area of the fire. It was reported that the progress fire had moved into state property on the boundaries of the Prairie City Off Highway Vehicle Park.
Traffic was impacted with Grant Line Road closed at 4:00 p.m. from White Rock to Douglass Road on the southbound side and from Douglass to Prairie City Road on the northbound side, according to Metro Fire.
UPDATE 4:38 p.m.: Incident command reports that crews have stopped the forward progress of the fire and are working to contain it within its lines.
UPDATE 4:50 p.m: Aerial fire mapping by FIRIS Intel 12 reports they fire area is approximately 119 acres in size overall.
UPDATE 6:20 p.m: Reports list fire still at 15% contained overall.
UPDATE: 7:30 p.m: Fire is now 50% contained per CalFire. Crews will continue working through the night to fully contain the fire. No structures have been threatened throughout the event and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
