Firefighters from both Folsom and the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department made quick work of stopping the forward progress of a vegetation fire that broke out near the Orangevale bluffs Thursday evening.
It was just after 7:30 p.m. when multiple engines from both agencies were dispatched to the fire that was reported from residents on the 4800 block of Main Avenue.
Firefighters accessed the blaze from Mississippi Bar Drive drive and recreational trails behind the homes that flank the natural area. According to radio traffic from the scene, the fire was burning in dry mixed grass and trees and posing a potential threat to structures.
After the arrival of the first engines, firefighters requested the assistance of two additional wildland engines to assist. Additional units were deployed into structure protection for the residential area that borders the wildland area and a helicopter attack was deployed. Several residents also assisted with garden homes to fight the flames in dry grass as it neared their homes.
After their initial aggressive attack, firefighters had stopped the forward progress of the fire within 12 minutes of arriving on the scene, clearing the air support from the incident shortly thereafter as nightfall arrived. The fire reportedly consumed approximately 2 acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and units will remain on scene into the evening to completely extinguish and mop up the blaze.
