Annual contest invites creators of all ages to submit original builds as the 2026 event approaches
With the opening date just days away, anticipation is mounting for one of the Folsom Public Library’s most beloved annual traditions: the 7th Annual LEGO Building Contest. Returning with the 2026 theme of “Adventure,” this year’s event invites LEGO enthusiasts of all ages to bring their most imaginative ideas to life and share them with the community.
The friendly competition encourages builders—whether young apprentices experimenting with their first creations or veteran hobbyists known for intricate designs—to craft original LEGO masterpieces that reflect their own adventurous spirit. The contest has grown into a signature winter event for the library, transforming the building into a vibrant gallery of color, engineering, and storytelling each January.
Participants may submit their completed entries at the Folsom Public Library from Tuesday, January 20 through Saturday, January 24 at 11 a.m. In past years, builders have arrived throughout the week carrying carefully constructed pieces that showcase everything from whimsical expeditions to elaborate scenes of exploration and discovery.
On Saturday, January 24, the public is invited to view all entries between 2 and 4 p.m. Community members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite creation in each age category, helping select the coveted Crowd Favorite awards announced shortly after 4 p.m. The open viewing has become a highlight of the event, often drawing families, friends, and curious visitors eager to admire the creativity on display.
The contest features five age divisions: Young Child (ages 4–6), Child (7–9), Child (10–12), Teen (13–18), and Family/Team. Judges will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place in each category, with first-place winners receiving a $25 gift card. All winners receive a certificate and ribbon, and Crowd Favorite winners earn additional recognition from the community.
Organizers emphasize that the contest celebrates creativity, imagination, and joyful participation rather than competition alone. Original builds of all sizes and styles are welcome, so long as they are the creator’s own design.
