EL DORADO HILLS – A former longtime El Dorado Hills high school band teacher has been arrested and charged with multiple felony counts alleging child sexual abuse, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday morning, Sheriff’s detectives arrested Paul Varoff, a former Oak Ridge High School band teacher who worked at the school for more than 30 years. Investigators allege Varoff committed multiple sexual offenses involving minors.
According to the sheriff’s office, Varoff has been charged with five felony counts of oral copulation of a person under the age of 18 and five felony counts of sexual penetration of a person under the age of 18. Detectives said the charges stem from an ongoing investigation into alleged acts that occurred while Varoff was employed as an educator.
Varoff was booked into the El Dorado County Jail following his arrest and is currently being held without bail, sheriff’s officials said. The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office has formally filed the case, and Varoff is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office added that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are continuing to gather information and are encouraging anyone who may have knowledge related to the case, or who believes they may be an additional victim, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Katz with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 530-642-4716 or by email atkatzt@eldoradosheriff.gov. Authorities said all information provided will be directed to investigators handling the case.
