Retail theft surveillance leads to firearm and drug arrest in Folsom
FOLSOM — An active surveillance operation targeting organized retail theft in Folsom led to the arrest of a Sacramento woman on multiple firearm and narcotics charges, according to a release issued this week by the Folsom Police Department.
Police said members of the department’s Special Investigations Unit were conducting surveillance on a known organized retail theft suspect linked to multiple thefts within the city when detectives recognized a second individual during the operation. That individual was known to investigators from prior cases and was confirmed to be on searchable probation.
Detectives adjusted their operation, dividing resources to maintain surveillance on the organized retail theft suspect while simultaneously initiating surveillance on the probationer. A short time later, investigators conducted a traffic stop after observing California Vehicle Code violations.
During the stop, detectives safely detained the vehicle’s occupants and carried out a probation search, police said. That search resulted in the discovery of a loaded handgun, methamphetamine, a digital scale commonly associated with narcotics sales, and additional drug paraphernalia.
Authorities identified the arrested individual as Alisha Powers of Sacramento. She was booked on charges including possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
“This investigation highlights the proactive and adaptable work of our detectives as they continue to focus on organized theft and related criminal activity impacting our community,” the department said in its statement. “Whether in uniform or behind the scenes, we proudly work to keep our business community, residents, and visitors safe.”
