Longtime Town Center location to become second site for expanding Italian concept as company refines direction

A longtime dining fixture at El Dorado Hills Town Center has closed as its parent company advances a broader shift in branding and concept strategy, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for one of the center’s most recognizable restaurant spaces.

The Selland’s Market-Cafe location at 4370 Town Center Blvd., Suite 120, has officially closed, a change that has become immediately visible to passersby through signage posted at the space announcing that OBO’ Italian Table & Bar is coming soon. For years, the café served as a go-to spot for residents seeking casual, market-driven fare in the heart of Town Center, making the closure a notable moment for the local dining landscape.

The restaurant is operated by the Sacramento-based Selland Hospitality Group, also known as Selland Family Restaurants, a company with deep roots in the region’s culinary scene and a portfolio that spans neighborhood cafés to high-end dining destinations. The group has built a reputation over decades for adapting its concepts while maintaining a focus on quality, seasonality, and hospitality.

According to the company, the El Dorado Hills transition represents a strategic next step in the expansion of OBO’, an Italian-inspired restaurant concept that currently operates a single location in East Sacramento. In prior correspondence shared by the company, co-founder and CEO Josh Nelson described the El Dorado Hills location as “the first step” in bringing the OBO’ concept to additional markets, aligning with the company’s broader plans to grow the brand beyond its original neighborhood while remaining deliberate about where and how that growth occurs.

Selland Hospitality Group is widely recognized locally for operating some of the Sacramento region’s most prominent and acclaimed dining establishments. Those include the Michelin-starred The Kitchen, known for its immersive fine-dining experience, as well as Ella Dining Room & Bar, a longtime Midtown staple. Alongside those flagship destinations, the company operates café and casual dining concepts designed to serve neighborhood communities throughout the region.

According to information previously shared by the company, the closure of the El Dorado Hills Selland’s Market-Cafe was closely tied to upcoming renovation considerations. As plans were evaluated for updating the space, leadership reassessed whether the Market-Cafe concept continued to be the best fit for the location. That internal review ultimately led to the decision to introduce OBO’ to Town Center rather than reinvest in the Market-Cafe model at that site.

OBO’ Italian Table & Bar is described by the company as drawing inspiration from the simple, nourishing flavors and seasonal cooking traditions of rustic Italy. The concept places an emphasis on artisan comfort food prepared in-house, with menus built to appeal to diners throughout the day. According to the company, OBO’ is designed to function as an all-day gathering place, offering flexibility for casual meals, takeout, and sit-down dining.

Menu offerings center on Italian-inspired selections such as house-roasted meats, wood-oven-fired pizzas, seafood dishes, seasonal vegetables, and fresh salads, along with hot and cold side dishes, handmade pastas, sandwiches, grab-and-go prepared foods, and housemade desserts. The concept also features a full bar serving craft beer, wine, and spirits, as well as patio seating, takeout service, and catering options, all aimed at broadening its appeal to different dining occasions.

The existing East Sacramento OBO’ location operates out of a historic brick building near Midtown and is intentionally designed to create an inviting, casual, and comfortable atmosphere. According to the company, those same elements will carry forward to El Dorado Hills, maintaining the brand’s identity as it expands while adapting to the Town Center setting.

The transition in El Dorado Hills comes during a period of broader evolution for the Selland’s Market-Cafe brand overall. Earlier this year, the company outlined plans to refresh the concept across its remaining locations, including renovations and a transition to the Sellands Cafe & Bar name. According to the company, remodeling work has already been completed at its Sacramento cafés on H Street and Broadway, with new patio spaces planned for later this summer to enhance the guest experience at those sites.

While the remodel is underway, the company expects it to move quickly and be reopen by the end of the month.
