It was just a year a couple months ago that leaders from the City of Folsom and members of the Folsom Fire Department stood on bare dirt to officially break ground on the city;’s first fire station to be built south of highway 50. Now, city officials are gearing up that fire station into service by the end of the month.

Over the last 14 months, progress has continued at a rapid rate and construction of the new facility remained on point when it has come to staying on schedule for what will be known as Folsom Fire Station 34. The new station is located at 3255 Westwood Drive just around the corner from the newly opened Alder Creek Elementary School and just around another corner from The Shops at Folsom Ranch where several new eateries, a veterinary clinic, a gas station and other businesses have quickly risen in the south city community.

Now, city officials and leadership of Folsom Fire alike are gearing up for an official grand opening of the station scheduled to September 26 at 10 a.m. After the official dedication of the new station it will roar into action to serve the rapidly growing community south of the highway.

The new station is the first of two planned for the expansive Folsom Ranch. The state of the art facility was built by contractor D.L. Falk Construction. The project was put into action with an approved budget of $11,860,200.

Future Fire Station 34, will be an important addition to Folsom’s emergency response infrastructure. As Folsom continues to grow, the station will help ensure the community’s safety by improving response times and expanding coverage. Currently, first responders must travel from the northern leg of the city which can delay response times considerably.

Equipped with modern facilities and advanced firefighting equipment, Fire Station 34 will enhance the city’s ability to protect residents and property. The station will staff an Advanced Life Support Type 1 Engine and cross-staff a Type 3 Engine with three full-time firefighters daily.

In May of last year, the Folsom Fire Department welcomed its largest group of new recruits when it swore in 19 new firefighters and paramedics. A number of those recruits will be placed to staff the new station when it is put into operation to serve the community.
