Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of a bomb threat that was phoned in to Mercy Hospital of Folsom, prompting a temporary lockdown and a large multi-agency law enforcement response Saturday evening.

The threat was reported shortly before 7 p.m. at the hospital in the 1600 block of Creekside Drive after a call was made to the hospital’s switchboard and relayed to the Folsom Police Department.

Officers responded and secured the property while law enforcement personnel conducted a systematic search of the 106-bed hospital. Crews from the Folsom Fire Department also responded as part of emergency protocol.

Hospital officials implemented a precautionary lockdown during the search to protect patients, staff and visitors. Emergency personnel searched the facility and ultimately did not locate any device.

Authorities later determined the threat was not credible, and the lockdown was lifted later that evening. Hospital operations resumed following the sweep.

Despite the determination that no device was found, detectives continue working to trace the source of the call and gather additional information. Officers remained engaged in investigative efforts in the days following the incident as officials seek to determine who was responsible. No further details are being released on the investigation. Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Folsom Police Department.
