Folsom is at an important moment. As our city continues to grow, we must ensure that our financial decisions today protect the quality of life that residents expect tomorrow. Fiscal responsibility and thoughtful economic development are not abstract policy concepts. They are essential to maintaining public safety, supporting local businesses, preserving our parks and open spaces, and ensuring reliable infrastructure for future generations.
Over the past two years, I have spent time meeting residents across Folsom, listening to their concerns and priorities. One message comes through clearly. Residents want strong city services, a vibrant local economy, and leadership that plans responsibly for the future. These goals require careful financial stewardship and long-term thinking.
My perspective on fiscal sustainability comes from more than 35 years of experience working in engineering and infrastructure leadership. In my professional role, I have been responsible for managing complex systems and resources that millions of people rely on every day. Those responsibilities required balancing budgets, planning for long-term maintenance, and ensuring operational reliability. The lesson was clear: responsible planning today prevents difficult consequences tomorrow.
My public service experience has also given me insight into how cities support economic growth. As a former commissioner for the City of Davis’s Business and Economic Development Commission, I worked on issues related to strengthening local businesses and fostering economic opportunities. My service on the Sacramento County’s Vineyard Community Planning Advisory Council and Sheriff’s Outreach Community Advisory Boards helped me understand how planning, infrastructure, and public safety contribute to a stable and attractive environment for businesses and residents alike.
Economic development plays a vital role in fiscal sustainability. A strong local economy generates the resources needed to support essential city services. Supporting small businesses, encouraging innovation, and attracting responsible investment help create jobs and strengthen the community. Folsom has already demonstrated success in this area, but continued progress requires thoughtful leadership and careful planning.
At the same time, growth must be managed responsibly. Infrastructure, public safety, and city services must keep pace with development. Financial decisions must consider both immediate needs and long-term obligations. Sustainable growth protects the interests of both current residents and future generations.
Folsom has many advantages. Our community is engaged. Our local businesses are resilient. Our city is well positioned to support innovation and economic opportunity. With responsible financial stewardship and thoughtful leadership, we can continue to build on these strengths.
Leadership begins with listening. Residents, business owners, and community stakeholders bring valuable perspectives that help guide sound decision-making. My commitment is to ensure that those voices are heard and that decisions are made with careful consideration and long-term responsibility.
Folsom has given me opportunities, friendships, and a deep sense of belonging. I am committed to helping ensure that our city remains financially strong, economically vibrant, and prepared for the future.
