Buckeye Union employee identified as victim; sheriff’s office says investigation remains ongoing
EL DORADO COUNTY – A 57-year-old Placerville man has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder after deputies discovered a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a home Tuesday in El Dorado County.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Feb. 17 to a residence in the 1400 block of Big Oak Road following reports of a man brandishing a firearm. When deputies arrived, they detained Geoffrey Snyder, 57, at the scene.
Inside the residence, deputies located 56-year-old Shelley Snyder deceased from what authorities described as a suspected gunshot wound. No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting have been released.
Geoffrey Snyder was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail. Jail records show he is being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not provided further information regarding a possible motive or the events leading up to the shooting.
The Buckeye Union Elementary School District confirmed that Shelley Snyder had been employed by the district for more than two decades. District officials indicated that although schools are currently on break, counseling services will be made available for teachers, staff, students and families seeking support. Additional counseling resources are planned when students and employees return to campus next week.
