El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a local man accused of starting the Crozier Fire that forced evacuations  El Dorado County last month. 

Jason Robinette, 48, of Placerville, on a warrant issued by CAL FIRE Law Enforcement. The arrest was made following an investigation into the Crozier Fire, which ignited in El Dorado County during the early morning hours of August 6.

The fire proceeded burn 1,960 acres northwest of Slate Mountain in El Dorado County. No homes were destroyed, as the fire burned in a remote area, but evacuation orders were in effect and thePlacerville Airport also saw a closure due to the fire.

Robinette was arrested in Placerville and booked into the El Dorado County Jail on charges of arson, according to Cal Fire officiails.After completion of the initial investigation, it was determined that the fire was intentionally set. The investigation involved collaboration between CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Forest Service’s Law Enforcement and Investigations Office.

From January 1, 2024, through August 31, 2024, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers have made 91 arrests related to arson.
