The Folsom Police Department and CAPS volunteer teamed up with schools and students across Folsom Wednesday morning to participate in National Walk & Roll to School Day, a nationwide event promoting safe, active travel for youth.
The event, formerly known as Bike and Walk to School Day, saw officers escorting groups of bikers, scooter riders, and walkers to campuses, all while encouraging safe practices for navigating roads.
Students from Gallardo Elementary PTA, St. John Notre Dame School, and Folsom Hills Elementary PTA were joined by police officers as they made their way to school, celebrating community involvement and road safety.
“Thanks for inviting us, Gallardo PTA, St. John Notre Dame School, and Folsom Hills Elementary PTA,” the department shared on social media. “Keep biking, scootering,and walking safe.”
National Walk & Roll to School Day is an annual event held in communities across the U.S. to encourage active commuting and foster safer routes for children and families. This year, thousands of schools in 47 states participated in the event, highlighting the importance of building safer, healthier communities through walking and biking.
The energy from Walk & Roll to School Day is meant to inspire long-term change, with many participants citing the event as a catalyst for ongoing safety efforts. In fact, 69% of organizers in 2023 noted that building a sense of neighborhood was a major motivation for participating, while half of those same organizers said the event is part of year-round safety initiatives in their communities.
By fostering positive relationships between law enforcement, schools, and students, Folsom’s participation in this nationwide celebration of active travel helps strengthen community bonds and promote safe transportation practices.
