The quick actions of a Folsom resident and a neighbor helped firefighters contain a structure fire to the garage area of a home Thursday evening.

At approximately 8:55 p.m., units from the Folsom Fire Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Boxford Square after a 911 call reported a fire in the garage of the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the garage area.

After ensuring the home had been fully evacuated, firefighters confirmed the fire had been contained to the garage, with no extension into the living area. This was largely due to the quick actions of the homeowner and a neighbor.
Upon discovering the fire, the homeowner reportedly grabbed a garden hose, while the neighbor used a fire extinguisher to help extinguish the flames as firefighters were en route.

Firefighters were still investigating the incident an hour after their arrival, ensuring all hot spots were fully extinguished. The fire reportedly started near an interior garage light fixture on the wall.
