In Tuesday’s anticipated Folsom City Council District 4 election, longtime resident and candidate Barbara Leary has emerged with a commanding lead in the unofficial vote count thus far. As of Wednesday morning, Leary had secured 1,656 votes, accounting for 48.03% of the total ballots cast, according to the latest data from Sacramento County Elections.
Leary’s performance in the election has ahead of her closest opponent, former law enforcement professional Jim Ortega, who garnered 1,437 votes (41.68%) as of Wednesday. Businessman Gul Khan, a third candidate in the race, received 355 votes (10.30%) so far A total of 3,448 votes were cast in this race so far, according to elections data.
“I’m cautiously optimistic about the results and looking forward to serving our City if the results remain in my favor. I’m thankful for all of the time that my volunteers put into bringing me to this point and for all of the residents who spent time with me at their doorsteps,” Leary shared with Folsom Times after Wednesday’s latest results were released.
Leary, is longtime Folsom resident since 1992, who has a deep commitment and passion to the community, with service in several local leadership roles. A retired Nurse Practitioner, she has been a vocal advocate for sustainable growth, community well-being, and preserving Folsom’s historic charm. She has spent many hours canvassing her district in recent weeks, something she cites was hard work but much enjoyed.
“My favorite part of campaigning is getting out and talking to our residents and learning what their concerns and hopes are for our City, ” added Leary. “I’m prepared to take on the challenges that are facing each neighborhood in my district and throughout the City.”
Leary’s relative leadership includes time spent on the Folsom Parks and Recreation Commission, Arts and Cultural Commission, and the Planning Commission.
