A search is ongoing for two men who were reportedly swept away by the American River on Saturday night. Authorities responded to the call near the Oregon Bat area, just before 9 p.m, which indicated that the men, both 20 years old, were pulled into the river around 7 p.m. while fishing with a third man. One of the men was swept away first, and the second man attempted to rescue him but was also caught by the current.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Department was mobilized, with an aerial search conducted by Falcon 30. Due to the darkness and fast-moving waters, the dive team was unable to safely enter the river and instead conducted a shoreline search, but found no sign of the missing men.

According to the Placer County Sheriffs Office, 18 searchers and two K9 teams are actively searching the area, focusing on both sides of the river to locate any individuals who may have self-rescued. The dive team was preparing to enter the water once conditions allowed Sunday morning, and two drones were being deployed with the better visibility as fog was previously limiting their use.

The search is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
