There was some shady activity taking place in broad daylight in Historic Folsom Wednesday afternoon. After a much-anticipated wait, the shade structure over the stage area of the Zittel Family Amphitheater was replaced.

After being constructed in 2021, much to the liking of performers and spectators, the severe storms that extended into earlier this year took a toll on facility, ripping the entire portion about the stage off its framing. The irreparable damage to the material made it impossible to be reinstalled prior to the opening of the 2023 Summer Twilight Concert Series.

Wednesday afternoon, technicians from Goodwin-Cole of Sacramento were on site. Working upon a variety of lifts, the crew of four installed the new covering over the stage. The company was contracted by the City of Folsom to make the needed repairs.

For the first five weeks of the concert series, performers have been enduring the heat of the setting sun. Such will not be the case this week as the Golden Cadillacs will be first band to play in the shade.

For many years, the Historic Folsom Amphitheatre went without any shade. In 2021, the installation of the structure came about after the Folsom Historic District Association received a $30,000 Amplifier Award from SMUD via the Shine Award Program.

The grant funds helped with costs to construct the structure with the City of Folsom funding the remaining cost of the project that was designed by Dokken Engineering as a donation and Sierra National Construction constructed the structure for the project that was managed by the City of Folsom Public Works Department.

The Golden Cadillacs are set to take the stage Thursday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. and perform until 9:30 p.m. (see related Folsom Times story). Spectators are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for event and small ice chests are permitted at the venue. Parking is free in the Historic District Parking Garage at 905 Leidesdorff Street, which is right next to the concert venue for a dance across the walkway to grab your seat for some great entertainment.
