Firefighters from multiple agencies, including Sacramento Metropolitan and Folsom Fire Departments have responded to a vegetation fire in Orangevale near several homes.
Named the Snipes Fire, the fire began in the area of Snipes Boulevard and Snipes Avenue, near a well populated neighborhood in Orangevale. Units were first dispatched to the scene at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday evening and continue work on the scene.
Firefighters have reportedly stopped the forward progress of the fire and have been working its interior in an area that contains dense brush and dry fuel and will required firefighters to work and fully extinguish the fire into the evening. A helicopter was reportedly assisting shortly after firefighters arrived, lifting water out of Lake Natoma and dropping onto the fire area in the heavy brush covered areas. It’s estimated the fire scorched 7 to 8 acres at this time.
This is one of several fires that broke out in the region late Tuesday afternoon. Metro Fire remains on scene of a grass fire near a new community off White Rock Road in Rancho Cordova. Another fire kept crews busy on Tobia Way in Fair Oaks.
In neighboring Amador County, two wildfires kept crews busy and produced visible smokey skies south of Foksom.
The Carbon Fire near Ione, off Carbondale Road and Willow Creek, in Amador County reached 56 acres and is 40% contained.
The Liberty Fire also sparked in Amador County, north of Camanche Reservoir off East Liberty Road and Ranchero Road. It reached 65 acres.
There is no information on the cause of any of the fires at this time.
