Members of the Folsom Police Department, gathered outside of the Folsom Police Station on Natoma Street Friday to bid farewell to a member of its force after more than three decades of service.
Lining up on both sides of the department’s main entry, officers, dispatchers and members of the department’s administrative staff offered a salute and many congratulations to Dispatch Supervisor Susie Rivera Thursday. Today was Rivera’s last day as she heads into retirement after an outstanding 33-years of public service.
According to the department, Rivera started with the department in 1996 as a Reserve Police Officer in addition to being a Dispatcher. She then became a Dispatch Supervisor in 2000 and served for 23 years in that important role.
During her tenure, Rivera shaped the dispatch training program, served as President of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials.
Prior to coming to Folsom, Rivera started her Law Enforcement career with the Kern County Sheriff’s office in 1990. In the beginning she was a Dispatcher and later became a Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
“Susie will be missed but has without a doubt earned her retirement,” reads a statement from the Folsom Police Department.
After walking the exit steps one final time, Rivera was greeted by Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman. After asking if she was “ready,” Hillman handed Rivera his radio so she could make her final call and officially sign off. The call was followed by return radio traffic expressing gratitude and appreciating for her years of service.
