MATHER—The wait is over and the roar of jet engines has already returned to the skies as the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels arrived in Sacramento this week, bringing the official countdown to the 2025 California Capital Airshow, happening this weekend, March 22 and 23, at Mather Airport down to mere ours.
With anticipation at full throttle, organizers confirmed Friday morning that all remaining general admission tickets for Saturday’s show have completely sold out, and only a limited number of tickets for Sunday’s event remain available. A full weekend sellout is expected, and those hoping to witness the action are urged to secure tickets immediately at www.californiacapitalairshow.com before it’s too late.
This year’s airshow is not just any aviation celebration—it’s a marquee event for the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary and the crown jewel of Sacramento’s Navy Week. With the skies already alive with Blue Angels’ practice runs over the region, excitement has reached new heights for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest and boldest editions of the airshow yet.
Returning to Sacramento for the first time since 2019, the Navy’s elite flight demonstration squadron will headline the event in their F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. Known for their precision formations and gravity-defying stunts, the Blue Angels are set to wow crowds with their iconic diamond formation and pulse-pounding solo maneuvers that have captivated fans around the globe for decades.
“It is a tremendous honor to partner with the Department of the Navy to bring the Blue Angels to Sacramento and celebrate the military branch’s 250th birthday,” said Darcy Brewer, Executive Director of California Capital Airshow. “Throughout Navy Week and at the Airshow, attendees can look forward to fascinating educational exhibits that showcase the Navy’s history, mission and career opportunities.”
Alongside the Blue Angels, the U.S. Air Force F-16 Demonstration Team will light up the skies with high-speed tactical maneuvers in the legendary Fighting Falcon. Spectators will also experience the raw power of the massive C-17 Globemaster III Demo Team, showcasing the aircraft’s versatility and jaw-dropping flight capabilities.
The show will feature a stunning collection of historic warbirds, including the P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk, SBD Dauntless, Vought F4U Corsair, and the P-38 Lightning, giving attendees a rare chance to see some of World War II’s most iconic aircraft in action. The legendary U-2 Dragon Lady will also be on display, representing decades of high-altitude reconnaissance for the U.S. military and NASA.

The P-40 Warhawk, known for its role in the earliest days of World War II, adds a powerful historical presence. From Pearl Harbor to North Africa and beyond, this rugged aircraft served with valor across numerous theaters of war and in the air forces of 28 nations.
On the ground, guests can explore a massive aircraft display featuring historic bombers, fighters, and transport planes, including the B-25 Mitchell, P-47 Thunderbolt, and TBM Avenger. These walk-through exhibits allow families and aviation buffs alike to connect with military history, interact with pilots and crews, and enjoy a hands-on look at aviation technology both past and present.
Each year, the California Capital Airshow draws tens of thousands to the Sacramento region, with last year’s event bringing in more than 90,000 attendees. The weekend not only delivers heart-pounding entertainment but also fuels the local economy, with hotels, restaurants, and shops in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, Folsom, and beyond experiencing a major surge in business.
The airshow is presented by Sacramento County in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova and functions as a nonprofit, with proceeds supporting scholarships, youth STEM education, and local charitable groups throughout the year.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with nonstop aerial performances scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, history lover, or just looking for a high-flying weekend adventure, the California Capital Airshow is a can’t-miss event.
