Folsom’s Sutter Street Theatre is bringing a twist to a Disney favorite to its stage this coming week. Get your tickets now and plan for a family-fun-filled afternoon ahead in Historic Folsom with “Alladin Jr.” opening up on Saturday, July 29th.

According to Sutter Street Theatre, the story of Alladin you all know and love has been given the royal treatment in this adapted stage version designed for young audiences.  The story begins as Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character.

Aladdin Jr. will run until August 20 with matinee billings to appeal to young audiences and families. The new show to come is directed by local resident Kate Rolls with musical direction by Connie Mockenhaupt. Choreography for the Rated-G musical is by Deven and Keira LePage.

The show is slated for Saturday’s and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. Starting next Saturday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sutterstreettheatre.com or through the theater box office at  (916) 353-1001.

In addition to bringing Aladdin to the stage, Sutter Street Theatre continues to bring slapstick laughs to audiences with Spamalot.

Directed by Mockenhaupt, Spamalot continued to run through August 13 and is rated PG-13.

The stage verison of this cult classic, Spamalot is, “lovingly ripped off,” from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, according to the Sutter Street Theatre playbill.

Monty Python’s Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs.

Spamalot takes the stage on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. as well as Sunday’s at 4:30 p.m.

Sutter Street Theatre is located in the heart of Folsom’s Historic District at 717 Sutter Street. For reservations and ticket pricing go to www.SutterStreetTheatre.com or call (916) 353-1001.
