Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento has announced it is now accepting application for a new housing project  in Folsom’s Historic District, offering new avenues to affordable homeownership in the bustling city.

The initiative, situated on the northeast corner of Coloma and Persifer streets, aims to construct ten residences comprising five two-story homes and five cottages. Each property will integrate sustainable features such as drought-tolerant landscaping, energy-efficient systems, and rooftop solar panels, all designed to minimize utility costs for future homeowners.

Prospective homeowners are encouraged to apply prior to August 30th, through Habitat for Humanity’s online portal at www.habitatgreatersac.org/apply. The application process underscores Habitat’s commitment to ensuring accessibility and transparency in its selection criteria.

To qualify, applicants must meet specific guidelines including demonstrating financial capability for mortgage payments, falling within 30% to 80% of the Area Median Income for Sacramento County, and maintaining good credit standing. Additionally, successful candidates will contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” towards the construction of their homes, in partnership with Habitat volunteers and community donors.

The development timeline anticipates infrastructure improvements starting late July 2024, with construction slated to begin between September 2024 and December 2025. Habitat for Humanity will oversee the project’s progress, ensuring adherence to high standards of construction and environmental sustainability.
