A grass and brush fire that ignited near Folsom Lake is now being investigated as a possible act of arson, according to fire officials.

The blaze broke out Monday afternoon on the Granite Bay shoreline, near the boat ramp and Bender’s Beach—an area often populated with summer visitors. The fire burned just under half an acre of dry vegetation before crews were able to contain it. Firefighters from local and state agencies responded quickly to prevent the fire from spreading, thanks in part to calm wind conditions and rapid deployment.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact ignition point but say the fire’s origin raised enough concerns to prompt a formal arson investigation.

Investigators with California State Parks and local fire agencies are now working together in the investigation. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Officials are urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to come forward and contact California State Parks.

The fire did not damage any structures and no injuries were reported. The area around the burn site remains open, though officials continue to monitor conditions closely.

As fire risk increases across the region, authorities are reminding residents and visitors to report suspicious behavior and follow all fire safety regulations.
