FOLSOM — Mystery lovers and literary enthusiasts will have the chance to hear from one of the region’s most accomplished authors this weekend when Cindy Fazzi visits the Folsom Public Library for a special presentation on the mystery genre and the enduring popularity of hardboiled crime fiction. The free event takes place Saturday, October 11 at 2 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room.
Fazzi will guide attendees through what makes mystery such a powerful and timeless literary form, drawing from her own work to illustrate its appeal. “You could say that every good novel is a mystery in the sense that it poses an important question that the reader wants answered. That’s what makes mystery such an appealing and accessible genre,” she said. “My series falls under the hardboiled crime fiction subgenre, a distinctly American type of writing popularized by Dashiell Hammett, which typically features a tough and unsentimental hero who makes a living solving mysteries.”
Her two-book Domingo the Bounty Hunter series, published by Thomas & Mercer, was released on September 9 and brings a sharp, contemporary edge to the classic crime tradition. The series includes Danger No Problem (Book 1), previously published under the title Multo, and Sunday or the Highway (Book 2).
The novels follow Domingo, a bounty hunter whose relentless pursuit of fugitives leads him deep into webs of deception and danger. Danger No Problem earned critical recognition as a finalist in the Best Literary category of the 2024 Silver Falchion Award, honoring excellence in mystery and crime writing.
During her talk, Fazzi will explore the structure and psychology of mystery storytelling, the influence of classic noir authors, and the ways modern writers are reshaping the genre. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing, where attendees can meet the author and purchase signed copies of her novels.
The Folsom Public Library, located at 411 Stafford Street, continues to offer a strong lineup of cultural and literary events that highlight local voices and inspire lifelong reading.
