In what they are hailing as a significant crackdown on illegal fireworks, law enforcement and fire officials in Sacramento County seized their largest-ever haul of illicit pyrotechnics following a targeted investigation prompted by a tip-off from concerned citizens Thursday.
According to the report release Thursday evening, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District’s Community Risk Reduction Division, acted swiftly on an anonymous web-tip alerting them to an online advertisement for illegal fireworks on social media. This led deputies and fire investigators to Emory Court in South Sacramento, where a subsequent search warrant was executed.
Early this morning, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail raided the residence, uncovering nearly 8000 pounds of illegal fireworks, alongside five firearms and over $20,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from illicit sales. The operation culminated in the arrest of 36-year-old Randy Teurn, who was taken into custody without resistance.
Teurn, booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, posted bond shortly after booking and was released pending his court appearance scheduled for June 24.
Sheriff’s officials hailed the seizure as a significant victory in their efforts to maintain public safety ahead of Independence Day celebrations. “This was the largest amount of seized illegal fireworks in Sacramento County history,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement following the arrest. “We commend the vigilance of our community members and the collaborative efforts of our law enforcement and fire investigators.”
