A longtime family owned Sacramento-area retailer is preparing to turn out the lights for good. Beck’s Furniture & Sleep, the family-owned company that has anchored the region’s home furnishings market for more than 50 years, announced this week it will permanently close its Rancho Cordova store.
Signs have gone up at the longtime showroom at 11840 Folsom Boulevard, signaling the end of one of Northern California’s most recognizable furniture retailers. President and CEO Stacia Beckinger, whose family has run the business for generations, said the decision was made to retire after decades of operating the store.
Beckinger said the exact closing date has not been determined, as the business is still working through the process. She added that the company values its employees and isn’t in a rush to shut the doors.
The closure follows the March shutdown of Beck’s Sacramento location on 55th Street, which the family had operated for about 20 years. The property was sold for $5.75 million, with a new home improvement retailer expected to take its place.
Although Robert Beckinger officially founded the store in 1976, the family’s ties to the furniture business run deeper—back to the 1950s, when they began building their reputation across Northern California. By 1976, Robert opened his own store with an 8,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse, and within three years relocated to a 22,000-square-foot space on Madison Avenue. Additional expansions in the 1990s and 2000s saw Beck’s operate multiple locations across the Sacramento region, ultimately encompassing nearly 200,000 square feet of showroom space and more than 150 employees.
Known not just for its vast showrooms, Beck’s offered in-home design consultations and full-service delivery, setting a high bar for customer care. Its product lines featured a wide range of home furnishings, mattresses, and accent pieces, as well as partnerships with trusted national brands such as Acme Furniture, Ashley Furniture, Diamond Mattress, and Guildcraft.

For decades, the Rancho Cordova location served not only its own community but also a wide region that included Folsom, Roseville, Elk Grove, Davis, and beyond. Shoppers often found both variety and value inside its showrooms, guided by multiple generations of the Beckinger family and their employees. One neighbor summed up the community’s sentiment in a Nextdoor post: “We got some pretty unique furniture for decent prices. The staff has always been wonderful.”
With the Rancho Cordova closure, that era comes to an end. The company has launched an inventory sale, advertising steep discounts on hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of furniture as it winds down operations.
While Beck’s Furniture is closing, its legacy in Northern California retail will remain tied to decades of helping families furnish their homes. For the Beckinger family, the decision to retire closes one chapter while leaving behind a history of perseverance, expansion, and service that spanned more than half a century.
