Area Blue Shield of California offices in El Dorado Hills and Rancho Cordova are among those impacted by a new round of companywide layoffs, according to filings with the state and a statement from the health care provider.
A total of 41 employees will be let go across the two locations, with the layoffs taking effect September 23. The cuts include three employees at Blue Shield’s Rancho Cordova facility on Zinfandel Drive, and 38 at its El Dorado Hills offices — six at 4203 Town Center Blvd., Building C, and 32 at 4205 Town Center Blvd., Building B.
The job reductions represent less than 2% of Blue Shield of California’s total workforce, the company confirmed. Affected employees are being provided with transition support, including a 90-day window to apply for other internal roles, skills training with certified professional coaches, and severance benefits.
This is the latest in a series of workforce changes for the nonprofit health plan. In 2024, Blue Shield announced layoffs of 165 employees across California, including 67 in the greater Sacramento region.
Blue Shield did not indicate whether the current round of layoffs is part of a broader corporate restructuring, nor did it comment on whether local services or operations would be affected by the cuts.
Blue Shield of California is based in Oakland, as of May the company employed 1,210 full-time workers in El Dorado County as of May, according to Business Journal research. Back in 2022, Blue Shield sold a portion of its El Dorado Hills campus and leased back part of the property, citing increased reliance on hybrid work models and reduced need for office space. Marshal Medical now occupies as large portion of the original building that is visible from eastbound Highway 50.
