A man’s body was found Wednesday in the water of Lake Natoma near Black Miners Bar State Park in Folsom, prompting an investigation by California State Parks and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

According to State Parks officials, a group of kayakers spotted the body in the lake and reported it to park rangers shortly before 11 a.m. Rangers responded to the area near Black Miners Bar and secured the scene while additional agencies were notified.

Folsom Fire Department dispatch logs show firefighters were called at 10:57 a.m. to the north shore of Lake Natoma near Greenback Lane and Folsom Boulevard to assist with the response. Personnel from the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office were dispatched to take custody of the body and will be responsible for determining the cause and manner of death.

Authorities did not release the man’s identity Wednesday and did not provide information on how long the body may have been in the water. No details were immediately available regarding whether foul play is suspected, and officials said the investigation remains ongoing.

The discovery occurred near the Black Miners Bar Boat Launch within Lake Natoma, a heavily used recreation area frequented by kayakers, cyclists and runners.

Wednesday’s incident marks the second body recovered from Lake Natoma in less than a month. On Dec. 29, authorities recovered the body of a man in the same general area, a day after his personal belongings were found along the bike trail at Black Miners Bar.

Officials said additional information will be released as it becomes available following the coroner’s investigation.
