FOLSOM—Folsom Police officers arrested a 52-year-old man Saturday evening after he allegedly brandished a handgun during an altercation near a Chevron station near the Highway 50 interchange.
According to Folsom Police, units responded to the service station located on Old Placerville Road September 20, following reports that a man was involved in a dispute with a group of juveniles and had displayed a firearm in a threatening manner. When officers arrived, they quickly detained the suspect, identified as Jacob Gelegan.
Police say Gelegan was found to be in possession of a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun that was not registered to him. He was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a firearm in a threatening manner, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm while not being the registered owner.
Authorities emphasized that thanks to the swift response of officers, the confrontation was resolved without any injuries.
“Incidents like this highlight the importance of our officers’ professionalism and dedication to keeping the community safe,” police said in their statement releasing details of the arrest.
Gelegan was booked into Sacramento County Jail. According to jail records he was released on bail early Sunday.
