Units are currently searching the area as of 6:15 p.m. after a 911 call reported a kayaker had possibly fallen into the water approximately 20 feet from the shoreline below the Cliff House where they spotted a kayak upside down in the rushing water. Units spotted a kayak as of 6:28 p.m and an oar found downstream. Incident command has reported that visibility in the water is nearly zero for divers.
Update 7:22 PM: Units have been unable to locate a victim and are scaling back their search efforts due to lack of visibility.l, according to command center radio traffic.
UpdateL Mar. 13, 2:00 p.m.: Folsom Fire Chief Ken Cusano confirmed with Folsom Times that no victim had been located from the incident, only the unoccupied vessel and a stray oar that drifted ashore. So far there have been no missing person reports filed as well so its possible the kayak was unoccupied and washed down stream or the occupant had gotten themselves to safety as well.
We will be update this posting as more information becomes available.
