Folsom’s largest day of volunteerism returns this fall, and the City is calling on residents, businesses, and local organizations to help shape it. Project proposals are now being accepted for the 12th annual Community Service Day, which is set to take place Saturday, September 20.
Community Service Day has become one of Folsom’s most impactful and unifying annual traditions. Organized by the City of Folsom in collaboration with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders, the single-day event mobilizes hundreds of volunteers of all ages to complete meaningful service projects across the city.
Since its launch in 2014, Community Service Day has made an enduring impact. More than 23,150 volunteers have taken part, completing over 1,050 projects that span Folsom’s neighborhoods, public spaces, and nonprofit sectors. These have included improvements to schools, parks, trails, the Folsom Public Library, the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, and more. In addition to infrastructure and beautification efforts, over 620 exterior home repairs and maintenance projects have been completed for senior citizens.
The event also strengthens Folsom’s culture of generosity through its signature donation drives. Over 645,000 pounds of food have been collected for Twin Lakes Food Bank. Volunteers have assembled thousands of care packages for deployed military personnel and gathered a wide range of donations for local nonprofits, including bicycles, eyeglasses, pet supplies, toiletries, and holiday gifts.
Modeled after the spirit of a “community barn-raising,” Community Service Day serves as a living example of civic pride, volunteerism, and connection. It brings together residents from all walks of life, creating new relationships and a shared sense of responsibility for the betterment of Folsom.
Organizers are currently seeking project ideas that will benefit local neighborhoods, support those in need, and enhance the quality of life throughout the city. Whether it’s a cleanup effort, a mural installation, a restoration project, or a creative way to assist a nonprofit, the City wants to hear from you.
Several specific proposal deadlines have been set and are as follows:
Folsom Cordova Unified School District Projects: Any projects taking place on school campuses must be submitted by Friday, May 16. This deadline gives school staff time to prepare and coordinate before summer break begins.
General Community Service Day Projects: All other standard project proposals must be submitted by Thursday, June 27to allow for proper planning and resource coordination.
Neighbors Helping Seniors: This special part of Community Service Day is dedicated to providing exterior home improvements and other assistance for Folsom’s senior residents. If you or someone you know could benefit from a helping hand, project proposals for this program are due by Thursday, August 8.
