The Folsom Jr. Bulldogs were recognized at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting for their outstanding achievements in both academics and athletics. The youth football and cheer organization received the 2024 Excellence in Academics and Athletics Award, an honor presented to student-athletes who maintained a 3.0 or higher grade point average while excelling in their respective sports.
The Folsom City Council commended the Jr. Bulldogs for their dedication to balancing schoolwork with athletic commitments, highlighting the program’s emphasis on both scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.
During the meeting, Mayor Sarah Aquino presented a Resolution of Commendation to the team, recognizing their commitment to excellence.
“The Folsom Jr. Bulldogs organization is committed to both academic and athletic excellence,” Aquino said as she presented the Resolution “Their ability to maintain strong grades while competing in football and cheer is a testament to their dedication and hard work. This level of achievement deserves recognition from the Board of Directors of Folsom Youth Football and Cheer and the City of Folsom.”
The Jr. Bulldogs have long been a staple in the Folsom community, providing young athletes with the opportunity to grow both on and off the field. Their success in the classroom reflects the core values of the program, which emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
“On behalf of the Folsom City Council and the Folsom community, I extend commendations in the highest regard to the members of the Folsom Jr. Bulldogs who earned the Excellence in Academics and Athletics Award,” Aquino added. “We encourage their continued scholastic excellence in the future.”
The recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of education in youth athletics and the positive impact that academic and athletic success can have on young student-athletes.
