RANCHO CORDOVA – The City of Rancho Cordova is taking an aggressive new approach to tackling mail theft and other crimes with the help of technology and a unique law enforcement partnership.

At the center of the effort is the Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Real Time Information Center (RTIC), a hub where trained analysts monitor live feeds and data from Flock Safety license plate recognition (LPR) cameras installed throughout the city. The system also includes specialized cameras positioned at locations prone to mailbox theft. Working in real time, the center allows officers to track criminal activity as it unfolds and respond more quickly.

The approach has already produced results. Police Chief Matthew Tamayo said the RTIC and Flock cameras recently played a critical role in an investigation when suspects broke into a U.S. Postal Service vehicle. Using the technology, officers tracked the suspects’ movements, worked with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and made arrests.

“Our Real Time Information Center, combined with high-tech tools like Flock Safety LPR cameras, is proving invaluable in fighting crime,” Tamayo said. “These tools give our officers the ability to connect the dots faster, prevent further crimes, and bring offenders to justice.”

Rancho Cordova Mayor Siri Pulipati said the system is giving officers an edge in protecting residents from theft and other crimes. “This technology gives our officers eyes across the city, allowing us to be more proactive and vigilant in protecting our residents against mail theft and other crimes,” Pulipati said. “It’s a game-changer for public safety in our community, and the unique collaboration with USPIS is a model for how agencies can work together to improve quality of life for residents.”

The Flock cameras capture license plates and vehicle descriptions with precision, day or night. Combined with the RTIC’s ability to analyze and share that information immediately, officers are able to locate suspects, identify stolen vehicles, and stop crimes in progress.

City officials say the integration of technology with traditional policing reflects a strong commitment to community safety and innovation. The effort underscores Rancho Cordova’s intent to remain a safe and welcoming city by pairing advanced tools with strong law enforcement partnerships.
