While Folsom Lake may be filled to the brim this year, water conservation is still a priority across the city of Folsom and likewise in the region. One component of most properties that uses a great deal is water is landscaping and lawns and city officials want to help you water them properly so they look great and are irrigated efficiently all at the same time.
This Thursday, June 8, the City of Folsom’s Water Conservation Division is invited members of the community to join them as they present a free Lawn Care Workshop at the Folsom Community Center starting at 6:30 p.m.
Those who attend will learn the essentials of lawn care, including effective watering, optimal feeding, and necessary maintenance, all of which will help residents have a lush lawn and use just the right amount of water to do so.
“Lawns are the thirstiest and most labor-intensive part of our landscapes. We unintentionally make them more expensive and difficult to maintain through poor upkeep,” said Don Smith, the City of Folsom’s Water Management Coordinator. “It’s not uncommon to find lawns overwatered by 200% or more and either over or under fertilized.
Smith will be the presenter in Thursday’s workshop that takes place in the activities room of the Folsom Community Center at 52 Natoma Street from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
“This workshop will cover subjects like mowing, fertilizing, watering and if you’d just like to lose the grass, effective lawn alternatives,” added Smith. “So if a more attractive and healthy lawn is what you’re after, this workshop will be time well spent.”
Thursday’s workshop is free to attend, but space is limited. Those wishing to attend can register at waterconservation@folsom.ca.us or do so by phone at 916-461-6177.
