Annual event invites families to explore city vehicles, meet local workers, and celebrate Public Works Week
Ever wonder what it’s like to sit behind the wheel of a garbage truck, climb aboard a fire engine, or chat with the local police officers who keep the community safe? You’ll get your chance at Folsom’s annual City Works Day, rolling into City Lions Park next week on Wednesday, May 21.
Hosted by the City of Folsom Public Works Department, City Works Day offers an up-close look at the vehicles, equipment, and people behind the essential services that keep the city running smoothly. The free community event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon and welcomes residents of all ages.
Held in honor of National Public Works Week, a national initiative sponsored by the American Public Works Association, the event is designed to educate the public about the departments, programs, and amenities that support daily life in Folsom. This year’s celebration promises a hands-on experience, complete with an impressive lineup of city vehicles, including garbage trucks, chipper trucks, dump trucks, fire engines, police vehicles, and various types of construction equipment.

City staff from multiple departments will be on hand to answer questions and share insights about their roles and responsibilities. From public safety to water management, attendees will learn how different teams work together to keep the city safe, efficient, and thriving.
The popular interactive displays make City Works Day a hit with children and adults alike, providing a chance to climb aboard vehicles, engage in educational demonstrations, and meet the people who serve the community every day.
City Works Day continues to grow in popularity and remains a favorite among local schools, families, and civic enthusiasts looking to get a better understanding of the city’s inner workings.
The event will be held at City Lions Park, located near the Folsom Public Library. Admission is free, and no registration is required.
