Travel on Sacramento Regional Transit’s Gold Line was disrupted near Rancho Cordova after a light rail train collided with a pick-up, forcing closure of the tracks.
According to a report from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Units were dispatched to the scene at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 8 at the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field Road in Rancho Cordova.
The impact of the collision pushed the Ford F-150 pick up several feet, pinning it between the train car and a trackside utility pole, nearly shearing it in half just behind the cab portion of the vehicle. According to the department posting, the driver of the pick-up was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The truck suffered major damage in the collision and the front of the light rail car was damaged as well.
There were no other injuries reported in the collision. The Gold Line travels from Folsom to downtown Sacramento. Transit was affected west of the collision during the incident, requiring transit officials to dispatch bus service, also known as a bus bridge, to service riders between the Rancho Cordova Town Center station and the Butterfield Station further west.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
