Local comedy fans lhave a reason to celebrate this fall, as legendary stand-up comedian Rita Rudner brings her quick wit and timeless humor to Folsom’s Harris Center on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. The performance marks a rare Northern California appearance for the Las Vegas headliner known for her epigrammatic one-liners and elegant delivery.Rudner first captured the national spotlight with her 1982 debut on Late Night with David Letterman, launching a stand-up career that would span decades. In 2000, she became one of Las Vegas’s hottest tickets, embarking on a wildly successful residency that grossed over $100 million, sold nearly two million tickets, and earned her the title of Las Vegas’s Comedian of the Year for nine consecutive years. Her legacy was further cemented in 2017 when she received the Casino Entertainment Legend Award.

Beyond the stage, Rudner is the author of six books, including the bestselling Naked Beneath My Clothes—which earned a Grammy nomination for its audiobook version—as well as Rita Rudner’s Guide to Men and I Still Have It…I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It. Her novels Tickled Pink and Turning the Tables showcase her signature wit in the world of fiction.

Rudner has also made her mark in television and film. She has released 10 comedy specials, most notably Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas, PBS’s first stand-up comedy special, and A Tale of Two Dresses in 2018. Her collaborations with husband and creative partner Martin Bergman include the acclaimed film Peter’s Friends, which starred Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie, and earned Rudner a Best Supporting Actress award at the American Comedy Awards. She also appeared alongside Jack Lemmon and Dudley Moore in A Weekend in the Country.

Most recently, Rudner published her memoir My Life in Dog Years and starred in STAGED, a new play co-written with Bergman, at the Laguna Playhouse. She also made a recent television appearance in Magnum P.I. on NBC.
