As a Fire Paramedic serving the City of Folsom and a Fire Battalion Chief living here in town, we see firsthand the critical importance of having the right resources at our disposal when answering emergency calls. Every second counts in our line of work, and our ability to protect our community hinges on having the right equipment, staffed with the right personnel, at the right time.
Measure G will ensure the safety and well-being of every resident in our community. With Folsom’s growing population and common fire risks in our woodland areas, the demands on our fire and emergency services are increasing daily. Without adequate funding, we risk being able to effectively offer the level of service our community deserves. The revenue from Measure G will allow us to maintain and enhance our current level of service by ensuring we have the necessary personnel and up-to-date equipment. We need to bring back the fire crew that was cut from Station 35 near Walmart over a decade ago and ensure there is a paramedic crew available at Station 34 for the community in Folsom Ranch.
We understand that no one likes the idea of taxes, but the reality is that the cost of providing emergency services continues to rise. This modest 1% increase in the local sales tax rate guarantees that funding will go directly to supporting fire services. It’s a modest investment to ensure the future of our city’s safety is not in jeopardy.
As two fire professionals who work on the front lines, we urge our fellow Folsom residents to vote yes on Measure G. It’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes from knowing our emergency services are fully funded and our community is safe.
