One advantage of being a “retired” city council member is that I can consider political issues in our city through a unique lens. Having served 15 years on the Folsom City Council and five times as mayor, I have been fortunate to be part of the inner workings of the city that many have not experienced. With that perspective, here is why I say, “Yes on Measure G,” and why I am asking my fellow Folsom residents to join me and vote YES.
Folsom is a special place. When I hear people say “No, we can’t possibly add a penny to every dollar spent for Folsom,” I say we should not be banging our chests with pride claiming to be one of the last full-service cities that cannot afford to support public safety, parks, trails, improved road quality and innovation. A vote against Measure G only ensures that we win the race to regional mediocrity and that is not the Folsom I believe in.
To me, Measure G is the right solution at the right time. Our community needs assistance, and we must invest in the things that make Folsom special – public safety, parks, trails, and roads, to name a few. We are losing what makes Folsom special and a desirable place to raise a family.
Without additional revenue, the city will cut services which negatively impacts public safety, our quality of life, and property values. If we choose to ignore the issues, our roads, parks, trails, and city facilities will continue to decline, costing more to repair and rebuild over time.
Measure G also provides that all funds raised stay in our town and provides robust accountability protections – a Citizens’ Oversight Committee and annual audits.
Help preserve and protect Folsom and please vote yes on Measure G.
