All too often we here about the many negative incidents and day to day activities that are police officers are called too. But in the midst of fighting crime and keeping the peace, many times there is a positive story that comes from something bad.

Such was the case recently when Folsom Police School Resource Officer Morgan Sears received a report that a student’s bicycle had been stolen. Thieves struck while the teen was in class, cutting the lock from her bicycle that was secured at the campus bicycle rack.

After taking the report, Sears went upon her routine of investigating the crime and seeking to find the stolen bike, which was the primary means of transportation for the student, who chose to remain unnamed, utilizes to travel to and from school each day.

Without a solid lead to locate the stolen bicycle, Sears took a different approach. Knowing how important the bike was for the student to attend class, she collaborated with Dick’s Sporting Goods in Folsom in an effort to replace it.

The local sporting goods store stepped up to donate the bicycle, which Officer Sears presented to the student, privately, along with her fellow officers and the local manager of Dick’s Sporting Goods.

“Officer Sears took it upon herself to turn this negative into positive and she didn’t do it for any notoriety,” Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman told FolsomTimes.com. “She is just a good person who went the extra mile to help someone in need. She loves being a School Resource Officer because she truly loves working with our Folsom kids.”
