RANCHO CORDOVA – The grandstands of Cordova High School Stadium were filled up to capacity Friday evening as the community of Rancho Cordova came together to celebrate the class of 2024. The marked the 60th commencement ceremony for Cordova High School and was one of three high school graduations to take place this week for the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District. 

While the Lancers stadium was packed Friday, thousands more watched from afar as the momentous event was live streamed with the collaboration of the Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUDSD) with Folsom TV and Folsom Times/All Town Media this year. 

The livestream has been a well-received component of FCUSD’s graduation ceremonies. Not only does the free broadcast provide large families that can’t fully attend the ceremony, it offers friends and families of graduates enjoy the milestone who may be homebound or out of the area to do so.

Some 375 graduates formed a sea of red that came flowing out into the stadium as the sun began to descend Friday night.  The processional included both faculty and graduates that made their way out to the sounds of Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance before taking their positions on the football field.  Following the presentation of colors by the Air Force Jr. ROTC, Cordova Student Body President Sierra Adair led the Pledge of Allegiance. The National Anthem was presented by the Cordova High School Choir.

Adair returned to the podium with Senior Class President Francheska Escobar to offer the opening welcome speeches. Cordova High School Principal Amy Strawn offered the opening remarks prior the Valedictorian remarks by Shany Sobhi. After a student performance by Leilani Williams-Carter, graduation announced Cole Cooper and Justin Well stepped to the staged to perform the distribution of diplomas. 

Following the presentation of the Cordova High Class of 2024 by Strawn, the entire class recited its alma mater just prior to the transfer of tassels and the post ceremony celebration.
