RANCHO CORDOVA — The Big Red Music Machine from Cordova High School is set to bring its vibrant sound to the Disneyland Resort as part of the prestigious Disney Imagination Campus Performing Arts Program, scheduled for Feb. 18-20. The band is the second school in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District to performs at the park in recent weeks, Folsom High made the trip this past week as well.
Eighty student musicians from the school’s jazz band, orchestra and marching band will participate in an array of musical experiences that showcase their talent and dedication.
According to the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, the marching band will perform in a parade down Disneyland’s iconic Main Street, U.S.A., where they will play the classic march “Bombasto” by O.R. Farrar. For many students, this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The jazz band and orchestra will also take part in Disney’s Soundtrack Session Workshops. Under the guidance of a professional Disney conductor, students will sight-read and record Disney music, synchronizing their performances with classic animated films such as “The Lion King,” “The Aristocats” and “The Incredibles.”
Cordova High School’s acceptance into the Disney Imagination Campus Performing Arts Program is a testament to its excellence, as only 60% of auditioning groups are selected each year. Music Director Kevin Sims, who has been leading Cordova High’s music groups to Disneyland since 1998, expressed pride in the program’s consistent success.
“Congratulations to all the students involved, and to Cordova High Music Director Kevin Sims. This accomplishment is a testament to their hard work, talent and dedication,” the district stated in its announcement.
