Witness report and real-time technology help officers track suspects to Watt Avenue area
RANCHO CORDOVA — Alert reporting by a community member and the use of real-time police technology led to the arrest of two suspects accused of breaking into a cluster mailbox and stealing mail in Rancho Cordova, according to the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
Police said patrol officers were dispatched after a witness reported seeing two individuals forcibly breaking into a cluster mailbox, removing mail, and then leaving the area in a black sedan. The witness was able to provide responding officers with a license plate number along with descriptions of both a male and a female suspect.
Using technology from the department’s Real Time Information Center, officers were able to locate and track the suspect vehicle to the area off Folsom Boulevard. A short time later, officers conducted a traffic stop a short distance away and detained both occupants of the vehicle pending further investigation.
During the investigation, officers identified the female driver as being on formal searchable probation. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of what police described as a large cache of stolen property, including mail, stolen checks, tax documents, and other personally identifying information belonging to multiple victims. Officers also located burglary tools and additional stolen items inside the car.

Both individuals were arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony charges. All recovered items were booked into evidence as the investigation continues.
Police credited the initial witness report as a key factor in the arrest and encouraged residents to remain vigilant. Officials said anyone who observes similar activity is urged to contact the Rancho Cordova Police Department at 916-362-5115 or their local law enforcement agency.
Due to recent changes in California state law, police said the identities of the individuals arrested in this case cannot be released at this time.
