FOLSOM — Folsom police have released official details Tuesday night on two separate crashes that took place earlier in the afternoon near area schools, both of which involved young riders and prompted renewed reminders about traffic safety.

The first incident was reported at about 3:50 p.m. on the 1000 block of Riley Street, an area that sees steady after-school traffic from both vehicles and students. Officers were dispatched to the scene after a collision between a car and a juvenile riding an e-bike. According to investigators, the juvenile was riding against the flow of traffic in the bike lane, a factor that may have contributed to the crash. The rider sustained minor injuries and was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Police said the investigation remains active as they review the circumstances.

A short time later, officers responded to a second incident in the same general area involving a scooter rider. In this case, no vehicle was involved, but the rider lost control, crashed, and required medical attention. The individual was treated on scene by emergency personnel. Authorities did not release further details, but confirmed the rider’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Police are taking the opportunity to remind the public that e-bikes and scooters are motorized vehicles, not toys, and must be operated with the same responsibility expected of any vehicle on the road. They urged riders, especially students, to travel in the proper direction of traffic, obey all stop signs and signals, wear helmets, and remain alert to vehicles and pedestrians.

“Help us keep Folsom safe by riding smart and following the rules of the road,” the department said in a statement, encouraging families to discuss safety guidelines with their children. Additional resources and tips are available on the city’s website at www.folsom.ca.us.
