Powerhouse Ministries presenting first event of its type on Lake Natoma
Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping experience soon arriving in Folsom. It’s the first Dragon Boat Festival, happening on the waters just off Black Miner’s Bar on April 6. This must-attend fundraiser promises to leave you on the edge of your seat and hopes to grow into an annual event, all for a good cause, benefiting Folsom’s Powerhouse Ministries.
In this unique event, attendees will gather along Folsom’s beautiful Lake Natoma to watch and cheer on teams or see if they have what it takes to compete themselves. No paddling or any kind of rowing experience? No problem. The event will even have professional coaches to help you with your technique and get your team in the hunt to become an inaugural Folsom Dragon Boat victor. Each boat will have 16 paddlers along with one drummer on board, all competing for the fastest times throughout the day.
According to Powerhouse Ministries, there will be various prizes for the event, not only for the best times but also for teams who raise the most money through pledges, all to benefit the cause. There will even be a drummer costume contest. Does your crew have what it takes to take home the gold?
In addition to the activity on the water, the event will feature live music, local food vendors, kids’ activities, and more. For those wishing to participate that need some guidance, the event organizers will be holding practices during the week leading up to the race with a professional rower.
Registration is open now for the event, and complete event and registration information can be found by VISITING THE WEBSITE HERE. You can also inquire by phone at 916-983-0658.
According to Powerhouse Ministries, the event will hold opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. on race day, and the event is free for spectators who want to come and cheer on their favorite team and experience a variety of activities, which will also include food trucks on-site and various vendors in a festival atmosphere all surrounding the day of competition and entertainment.
“We are looking for a few more teams to join in the fun and see if they have what it takes to take home the gold. Whether you want to captain your own team or join a team already established, there is no excuse not to be a part of this incredible event,” says event organizers.
All proceeds will benefit Powerhouse Ministries, a regional non-profit with a mission to end cycles of addiction, abuse, and incarceration. “When we come together as a community, we can provide a larger, immediate impact for people who are in their most desperate moments,” said Josh Levine, Co-Executive Director.
Founded in 1992, Powerhouse Ministries leads the region in providing no-cost residential recovery programming for men, women, and teens. Powerhouse Ministries offers a wide range of services designed to meet people where they are. Some of the resources offered to all residents are relapse prevention, counseling, licensed trauma therapy, case management, life skills, job readiness, and family reunification. In addition to their recovery centers, Powerhouse Ministries serves on the front line, providing homeless prevention services in the Sacramento region with their community care center.
