RANCHO CORDOVA- Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded to a residential structure fire early Sunday morning where a Rancho Cordova home suffered significant damage while its residents were away.

According to Metro Fire officials, the emergency dispatch called for units to respond to the 10000 block of Cardiff Way at 2:56 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found a “well-involved” attic fire with flames already breaching the roof.

A total of 17 units responded to the scene, including four engine companies and two truck companies. Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire and conducted a primary search, confirming that no occupants were inside. Officials confirmed that the residents were not home at the time of the incident and were reportedly on vacation.

Firefighters remained on-site for more than four hours, fully containing the blaze before the scene was cleared at 7:07 a.m. Despite the severity of the fire, crews were able to save much of the home.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire advised Folsom Times that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
