A Stockton man that was previously arrested for burglarizing homes in El Dorado Hills and then released is back in custody and currently ineligible for bail.
Back in November, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department had been investigating a series of burglaries which occurred in the popular Blackstone community located off of Latrobe Road in El Dorado Hills. With help from residents of the community, security footage and what they described as, “proactive police” work by deputies in a department report, detectives were able to identify a person of interest that was determined to be in Stanislaus County and out on parole.
Detectives conducted a parole search at the time and based on items located during the out of area search, detectives arrested Marcus Anthony Wright of Stockton. Wright was then booked on charges of felony burglary, in addition to prowling and violation of parole.
After originally having bail set at $665,000, Wright later released from custody as the court determined that investigators with the District Attorney’s Office had to collect additional evidence to prosecute Wright. After producing additional evidence, a new warrant was issued and Wright was taken back into custody on Jan. 11.
After pleading not guilty during his arraignment last week, El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Smith determined that Wright was considered a danger to the public and ordered he remain in custody until his next date in court.
Wright faces charges of four felony counts of first-degree residential burglary, an additional prowling charge, and the possession of burglary tools. According to court documents the crimes Wright is being charged for occurred in multiple occurrences during October and early November and took place while the suspect was on parole after being previously convicted of first-degree residential burglary in 1986 in Alameda County and 1991 in San Mateo County. According to Smith, he could face up to 25 years to life in prison.
Wright is scheduled to return to El Dorado County Superior Court this Friday, Jan. 26 for a pre-preliminary hearing.
